The Optical Tissue Imaging System (OTIS™)
Perimeter Medical's Optical Tissue Imaging System (OTIS™) is an intra-operative imaging tool which provides surgeons, radiologists and pathologists with the ability to review tissue microstructure during surgery.
The OTIS™ is based on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), a non-contact and non-destructive imaging technique. OCT is analogous to ultrasound imaging, but uses light instead of sound to extract structural information to a depth of 1-2mm. OCT is a mature technology with commercial applications in ophthalmology and vascular imaging, where samples are small and smooth. Perimeter's novelty the ability to rapidly image large and complex tissue samples.

Clinical Example: OTIS™ Imaging of a Breast Lumpectomy Specimen
The OTIS™ image (top) allows clinicians to visualize tissue microstructure seen in conventional histology (bottom). OTIS™ images are available immediately, while conventional histology is available 24 - 48 hours after specimen excision at the earliest.
CAUTION--Investigational device. Limited by Federal (or United States) law to investigational use.
